The 2016 Demolition Derby held its first contest for Derby Queen, Princess and King. The contest was a great success. Hadlee Tomczak was crowned Queen, Kilee Smart was crowned Princess and the King was awarded to J.D. Smith. These youngsters raised over $20,000 dollars for the 2 day event.
The crash and smash of cars, the crawfish dinner and crowning of royalty were not the only attractions that were provided that weekend, included was BBQ cook off and car show. The derby promised to provide spectators an edge of your seat thrill watching experience. It did not disappoint.
The BBQ cook-off was a great success with 42 cooking teams that Friday night, competing in Beans, Seafood, and Margaritas. This continued on Saturday with the teams turning in Brisket, Chicken, Ribs, and Open divisions. The Grand Champion Team of the 2016 Demolition Debry Cook–Off was Double Barrel Cookers with reserve Grand Champion honors going to Po Meskin Cookers.
In conjunction with the cook-off, the first leg of the Waller County Fair Association Car Show Series was held bringing a great selection of cars to the competition. The car show winners from the Derby will also compete during the Sportsman Extravaganza in August and during the Waller County Fair in September for the Over-All Honors.
Soon after the Cook-Off and car show, the real action began. The Demolition Derby had begun and the cars came out with engines roaring and the crowd screaming. The excitement was so intense that no one wanted to leave their seats. There were 24 cars fighting and crushing their way to try to be 2016 Waller County Fair Demolition Derby Champion.
